Back European Commission reveals the 9 finalists for the LIFE Awards 2023

European Commission reveals the 9 finalists for the LIFE Awards 2023

Each year, the LIFE Awards recognise excellence in projects grouped into three categories:

  • Nature Protection,
  • Environment,
  • Climate Action.

The LIFE TECMINE project with its innovative techniques for mine restoration in natural areas is a finalist in the Environment category. The other two projects nominated in this category deal with changing attitudes towards food waste and the introduction of new organic biostimulants in agriculture.

As for the finalists in the other two categories of Nature Protection and Climate Action, this year's edition includes projects such as the reintroduction of lynx, the improvement and conservation of habitats, the conservation of the natural dynamics of river systems, climate change adaptation strategies, the reduction of CO2 emissions and the creation of a European network for sustainable mobility in universities.

The members of the jury are prominent personalities in the environmental field. In this edition, the jury is composed of the Mayor of Tallinn, the European Green Capital of 2023, the journalist responsible for communication of the LIFE 2022 Award winning project in the environment category and a professional agronomist, an expert advisor on natural resources.
The jury will select one winner from each of the categories.

In addition, the public will be able to vote for their favourite project. The project with the most votes will receive the LIFE Citizen Award. Voting will open at the end of April and we will publish the link.

The award ceremony is scheduled for 6 June 2023 at 17:30 at the Charlemagne Building in Brussels. The ceremony is part of the celebrations of the European Green Week 2023.
